“I came to UNO from McNeese State as a sophomore and found a home in the History Dept. under the direction of Dr. Jared Johnson. I loved my time becoming a historian and learned to always question and to always be a student. I eventually, after graduation, moved to Georgia and spent 30 years in the field of print journalism as a writer, editor and photographer. UNO and its faculty was first class and I enjoyed taking classes from Dr. Cassimere, Stephen Ambrose and Department Chairman Dr. Johnson among others. UNO will always be my university as I often rode to the campus on my bike or walked from my home. The after school events, intramural activities and History Society turned UNO into a big family rather than just a school.
My fondest memory as a student was the opportunity to work closely with the History Dept. faculty along with my active involvement with government particularly as a volunteer campaign staffer for Jimmy Carter during the 1976 campaign. I also remember attending UNO basketball games at the Chamber of Horrors where Coach Greene and Van Breda Kolf took UNO to the playoffs as region and conference champions. UNO baseball also was a great time especially when the sun came out and the Privateers beat Tulane and teams from Illinois and Nichols State.”
